Produced in the Russian countryside around St. Petersburg the videos show movement over time through the displacement of colour as wind blows over the flowers and insects arrive and depart. Based on the early colour-photography techniques of Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) in the first years of the 20th century, Adad Hannah’s videos filter the light into its red, green, and blue components before layering them together again. This simple process results in complex, beautiful, and temporally abstracted images that focus on the subtle movements of leaves, grass, and flowers as well as the passage of time itself.
